These terms often arise when we want to follow certain affiliate program. Some of those terms are mentioned in this article to help you get a profound grasp of them.
The first chain of the internet marketing business is advertisers. They are the funding sources who pay for the promotional aid. Advertisers are companies that sell certain products, services or even websites. The advertisers request certain promotional help from the affiliates. Affiliates are persons who have a website on which the advertisers’ advertisements are placed. The cooperation between the advertisers and the affiliates is called the affiliate marketing. A mass affiliate marketing enterprise is usually facilitated by certain publisher network service. The actions that can be requested by advertisers and have to be paid by them are varied; several of them can be based on established CPA (cost per action) or CPC (cost per click) agreement between the advertisers and affiliates. The cost per click usually employs a certain calculation called CTR or Click Through Rate/Ratio to avoid unintentional or fake clicks. CTR is defined as the number of clicks divided by page views (impressions). In CPA agreement, the number of visitors who perform the conditioned actions is called the conversion. Again, the conversion also needs to be divided by the page impressions so every action is conducted intentionally. The result of such calculation is called the conversion rate.
The branch of CPA is called CPL or Cost Per Lead. CPL is usually more oriented to the actions that benefit the clients such as completing certain forms and downloading or installing a trial program. There are several others terms interlinked with either CPA or CPC that include CPM, or cost per thousand, CPS or cost per sale, and EPC or earning per 100 clicks.
