Guantanamo – Biggest Legal Headache for a new President
Posted on June 20, 2010 |
Guantanamo Bay, the notorious detainment camp located in Cuba, has been the target of protests and media attacks due to its purportedly unconventional treatment of captives and the various human rights issues surrounding the camp. Legal analyst, Kendall Coffey has this to say for the low points of 2008, in his web Page, “Legal Commentary and Analysis by Kendall Coffey”: “While it may be realistic to chop down portions of the Patriot Act, a complete shutdown of Guantanamo poses huge legal and practical challenges. Al Qaeda terrorism may be a poor fit for civilian trials inside the U.S.”
Coffey released this strong statement, seeing that traditional court regulations can prohibit vital evidence leveled at some of the worst defendants. He also observed that few areas will be willing to host hundreds of alleged terrorists in case they are to be moved to a more relaxed version of Guantanamo behind US borders.
Kendall Coffey is a successful attorney with over three decades of experience. He finished his bachelors with honors at the University of Florida where he also received his Juris Doctor with top honors. During law school Coffey was the editor and senior student works editor for the University of Florida Law Review. Kendall Coffey has also appeared in television shows, sharing analyses on major legal issues.
